Soon after she joined the company as the new “HR lady”, Josy sent invites to all the leaders for monthly 1:1 coaching sessions over a six-month period.

To be honest, I had NO expectations about it. The sessions could take many directions. They could be a kind of assessment or a moment to review company’s expectations; or it could be something truly meaningful for growth. So, I kept an open mind. I told to myself, whatever it is I’ll enjoy it and will try to make the best of it.

At first, I saw the sessions as a little push (it was work after all) mainly during the initial talks, but after a couple of encounters, they started to create momentum, especially because of the way she conducted them.

I’m so glad the sessions were way beyond what I had imagined. In fact, they turned out to be moments of self-reflection, full of provoking questions and real tips and tools to help me grow as a leader and as an individual.

I definitely ended the sessions as she always says: “Becoming a better version of myself”. It’s so interesting because all I needed to do towards my growth, I already knew, however; the sessions allowed me to openly discuss it and to get really clear on how to take forward-moving action.

There is no magic formula, growth is all about leading yourself, being intentional, being consistent with small changes in your routine, failing, adapting, and persisting. This is the biggest learning I took from this journey, and this is how I’m approaching my career and my personal life moving forward.

Here it goes a passage from Invictus, which I believe translates a little bit of what growth is.
