Wait, what? What kind of mother are you??
Well, you know, I’m the kind of mother that gets it. Unless you take care of yourself first, you will be absolutely useless to your kids, your significant other, and pretty much everyone around you.
In my case it’s coffee… and wine. But more than just simply consuming these beverages, it’s the sentiment of putting yourself first and doing things for you every day. Whatever that may be.
We love our kids. We should aim to be better and happier so they can fully enjoy our company. When you are tired, and complain about every single Monday, or the traffic, or the weather, or the amount of chores you have to do around the house: “nobody helps me around here” well, maybe it’s because you are impossible.
If you are not enjoying your own company, trust me, no one else is!
Put yourself first, always. Even the safety video on the plane tells you to put your mask on first, right? If you are burnt out, I doubt you will be able to help anyone.
One thing that worked for me was declaring Thursday a happy day. Every Thursday I decide to be happy no matter what. People expect me to yell ‘Happy Thursday’ when I walk into the office. There are friends I only text on Thursdays and we’ve been doing that for years now, and it’s awesome!
So start loving that human inside you. Find your passion or make one up! Whatever works.

“That’s why I can’t say enough times, whatever love you can get and give, whatever happiness you can filch or provide, every temporary measure of grace, whatever works”
Boris Yellnikoff (Whatever Works, 2009)
